UPDATED: Urgent Notice for Social Security Recipients with Dependents

Take Action by May 5th to Receive Your Full Economic Impact Payment!

[Update 4/24/2020: Deadline for action has been extended to May 5th].

If you are a Social Security recipient with dependents and you did not file federal income taxes for 2018 or 2019, you need to take action by TUESDAY, MAY 5TH. This revised press release from the Department of the Treasury details the steps you should take to ensure that you receive the $500 additional payment per dependent this year. Social Security recipients who do not file taxes and who do not follow the steps in the press release may need to file a tax return for the 2020 tax year and receive their dependent payments in 2021.

According to the press release, non-filing recipients with benefits should access the IRS Non-Filers Tool to enter basic eligibility and contact information to help ensure payment of the dependent benefit this year.
