“They made me stronger”: BayLegal’s client advocacy builds power

Dear Friends:

Legal help makes the difference in having or not having housing, food, safety, and healthcare.

Our attorneys and advocates know firsthand that legal advocacy and strong public systems make the difference in lifting people out of poverty, preventing and moving people from homelessness to stability, and breaking cycles of intergenerational poverty.

Our attorneys and advocates have expertise in addressing compounding barriers – for example eviction and housing discrimination, disability benefits, predatory consumer lending and collection, healthcare, and domestic violence.  We address the immediate crisis and the underlying legal issues to prevent future crisis.

As Richard York, who was unhoused before he found BayLegal, describes it:

They taught me a lot—not just about…SSI and housing, but other things as well. How to find resources on my own and stand stronger. I mean, they made me strong, so now I do most of this stuff on my own, because of the help and the tools the technique they helped me with along the way.

See Richard share about his experience in this video.

Our attorneys’ and advocates’ expertise in the laws, benefits and programs that affect our clients’ daily lives is ever more critical.

Thank you for your commitment and partnership in the fight for justice and our effort to make our society more humane, equitable, safer, and brighter for everyone!
