Bay Area Legal Aid Launches Our 2024 Annual Report

We are proud to share BayLegal’s 2024 Annual Report and in it a few examples of how our work, civil legal aid, transforms lives and restores dignity, safety, health, stability and hope. 

Our work to increase access to justice is about protecting fundamental principles of democracy, guarantees of due process and equality under law.  In 2024, we helped over 27,000 people and returned over $50 million in direct economic benefits to low-income individuals and communities.  For every $1 invested, civil legal aid returns an average of $7.

But at precisely the moment when our investment in legal aid should be increasing, when the needs of low-income individuals and families are growing due to reduced services and devastating cuts to public safety net programs, we face cuts and threats to completely eliminate the public investment in civil legal aid.

Without investment in civil legal aid, there is no return – only deepening need, growing inequity, a weakened legal system and communities left in crisis.
