Raising Awareness About Seniors and Student Loan Debt

Bay Area Legal Aid attorney Juliana Fredman and client Martin Ross spoke with ABC 7 news last week about the growing problem of low-income seniors struggling with decades-old student loan debt. With four times as many seniors still paying off student loans compared to a decade ago, and with the monthly cost of loan payments often meaning a forced choice between loan default and adequate nutrition, rent payments, and other necessities for the lowest-income seniors, this issue is increasingly critical to the economic security of BayLegal’s senior clients.
