Our Impact: Working Together for Youth Justice

Collateral Consequences of Juvenile Court Involvement

Youth who have been involved in the juvenile court system face numerous barriers to getting a job, obtaining safe housing, and furthering their education. This month’s Clearinghouse highlights BayLegal’s Youth Justice Project as a model of successful partnerships between civil legal aid attorneys and public defenders. The Youth Justice Project, which started as a Skadden Fellowship to meet the civil legal needs of young people, is now a team of nine attorneys and two social workers who provide direct legal representation to all young people, including youth involved in the juvenile justice system, as well as technical assistance to public defender offices across the region.
