Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal) is on the front lines fighting for our clients’ rights. About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced, culturally sensitive Grants & Contracts Officer with a strong commitment to social justice, to be a member of our Grants & Contracts Team.
As a member of BayLegal’s Grants & Contracts Team, the Grants & Contracts Officer will:
- Maintain a portfolio of grants and contracts, including federal, state and local cost reimbursable grants, as well as foundation and corporate grants;
- Help to develop new proposals –researching new funding prospects and working with program staff and collaborative partners to prepare and submit applications for new and renewal funding;
- Monitor and assure grant and contract compliance, including working with program staff, collaborative partners and finance team to: monitor project deliverables and spending; develop and submit timely narrative reports and invoicing; process contracts; coordinate and attend site visits with funders; and meet any additional funder requirements;
- Establish, build, and maintain good relationships with funder contacts;
- Work closely with BayLegal’s Finance Department to develop and modify grant budgets, ensure timely submission of invoices, monitor grant spending, and ensure timely and complete communication on all grant related issues;
- Maintain grants and contracts tracking system, records, files, and databases (Salesforce); and
- Assist the Director of Grants & Contracts and Executive Director with projects related to the strategic development of institutional funding support

Experience and Education:
- Has a minimum of three (3) years of experience prospecting and evaluating grant opportunities, submitting grant applications, managing a portfolio of grants, including government (federal, state and/or local) cost reimbursement grants or contracts and foundation grants, and/or managing direct services programs;
- Experience developing, analyzing and managing budgets;
- Experience analyzing programmatic data and business processes;
- Experienced using fundraising software and understands the value of a data-driven fundraising process;
- Experience with Salesforce is preferred;
- Experience and comfort working with marginalized and diverse populations; and
- A Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in non-profit management or related field is preferred.

COVID-19 remote work:
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all BayLegal employees are currently working remotely from home. While BayLegal has implemented detailed health and safety protocols to minimize risk of exposure and have an evolving plan for reopening our local offices, we anticipate remaining primarily remote at least throughout the rest of 2020. All employees are expected to be able to primarily work remotely from home until BayLegal determines it is safe to reopen offices. All employees are issued BayLegal computers, provided with appropriate supplies and BayLegal covers reasonable work-related expenses. BayLegal has implemented and continues to explore additional technologies to make working remotely as efficient and connected as possible. All employees receive a flat-rate monthly amount to cover the use of personal IT equipment, including internet. Due to the COVID-19 crisis and its impact on personal lives, BayLegal is open to providing flexibility regarding work schedules and part-time or full-time employment to the extent feasible for the position.
