Your Donation Helps BayLegal Close the Justice Gap for Tens of Thousands in the Bay Area
This #GivingTuesday, and throughout the year-end charitable giving season, BayLegal is counting on our individual, law firm, and organizational friends, allies, and partners to provide critical support for our work with a donation to the 2023 Annual Campaign. BayLegal’s ability to close the justice gap for individuals and communities in the Bay Area too often excluded from systems of support, economic opportunity, and safety from violence depends on our partnership with our donors.
The BayLegal Annual Campaign supports a broad regional strategy to mobilize the civil legal system on behalf of low-income individuals and families, addressing unmet legal needs as a crucial step toward dismantling systems of generational poverty and disempowerment. With your support we will continue to push back against the barriers that keep fair and equal access to civil justice out of reach for people living in poverty, and leave 85% of the legal needs of low-income Californians unmet or inadequately addressed, according to a study by the State Bar Association. As we have seen in thousands of cases like those featured in our 2022 Annual Report, access to legal expertise, counsel, and representation can make the difference between a civil justice system that opens doors out of poverty, isolation and disempowerment, and one that exacerbates those problems.
The commitment of our donors helps ensure that this legal access strategy meets the needs of the majority of low-income California residents, who face multiple and often interdependent civil legal issues in any given year, in legal areas including domestic violence prevention and child custody, eviction prevention and housing stability, consumer rights, and access to healthcare and critical safety net programs. Your donation will be a critical resource for this work. Thank you for considering a gift to this year’s campaign!
