On September 1, 2020, BayLegal in collaboration with the Disaster Legal Assistance Collaborative (DLAC) activated a Disaster Relief Legal Hotline for Californians affected by the wildfires in Northern California. Individuals can call (888) 382-3406 for help with legal issues related to the fires, and for information and referral to a range of other legal and support service providers for free legal assistance and legal resources for survivors of natural disasters. This hotline is part of our Legal Advice Line, and we will be providing advice and counsel for eligible clients during LAL hours. In the evenings, volunteer attorneys will staff the disaster hotline queue, as well as do callbacks for callers not eligible for BayLegal services. The volunteer attorneys can provide advice and counsel regardless of income or immigration status. Those affected by the fires should also consult the August 2020 California Wildfires Helping Handbook, prepared and maintained as a pro bono project by the firm of Morrison & Foerster LLP.
