Executive Director’s Blog: Looking Forward

Looking Forward

Racial Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

No challenge, no opportunity for growth and improvement, is more important to BayLegal today than aligning the core mission of our field—to break cycles of poverty and ensure that poverty is never a barrier to civil justice—with the ongoing struggle for racial justice and for equity and inclusion across cultures, genders, and sexualities.

BayLegal’s commitment to this work is embodied in our Racial Justice Committee, a BayLegal initiative established to help our firm address these intersections. As Executive Director, I’m actively listening to the committee and acting as an ally to build broader, more durable, and more systemic approaches to equity and inclusion. That’s a commitment that impacts both our external work with clients and collaborators, and our internal structure. BayLegal is deepening our commitment to assure we lead the movement for racial justice by naming Haydée Alfonso as our General Counsel and Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
