Contra Costa County Superior Court Announces Limited Closure

The Contra Costa County Superior Court announced a limited closure effective Monday December 7 because of the spike in COVID-19 cases. With the exception of criminal preliminary hearing witnesses, attorneys, and defendants, the Court will be closed to the public and jury trials suspended. For hearings that need to be reset, the Court will notify people of the new date, with hearings to be by Zoom or CourtCall. The court has also set up drop boxes for people to submit filings.

Bay Area Legal Aid has been a leader in raising concerns about safety and court access barriers and offering solutions to the Judicial Council and individual Superior Courts. We are grateful for the Contra Costa County Superior Court’s decision to prioritize public safety while preserving access to the legal system.
