California’s COVID-19 Rent Relief Program Does NOT End September 30th!
There is important news for California tenants and their advocates in an email yesterday from the CA Department of Housing and Community Development:
Dear HCD Partner,
Please help us set the record straight:
THE CA COVID-19 RENT RELIEF PROGRAM DOES NOT END SEPTEMBER 30!
The Rent Relief Program is going strong! To date, the program has made tremendous progress in deploying rental assistance across the state, with billions of additional funds available to distribute in the months to come. The program will remain open until funds are exhausted. We ask for your help to amplify this message and the accompanying eviction protections.
State eviction protections change after September 30, and rent relief plays a critical role. Starting October 1, landlords cannot seek an eviction of tenants who are eligible for the program without completing a rental assistance application with the program. Eligible tenants that complete an application with the program may be protected from an eviction for non-payment of rent.
This is why it is so vitally important that people understand that the rent relief program is actively accepting applications.
Please use and share our Rent Relief toolkit. It includes fliers, talking points, sample social media posts, and short videos to use and share. We will continue to add to the toolkit.
HousingIsKey.com also includes eviction protection resources and forms, such as FAQs and links to legal assistance.
