BayLegal’s Pro Bono Partners in Justice—Solidarity and Call to Action

Bay Area Legal Aid values our pro bono partners and volunteers as they stand with us while we adjust and prepare to continue the fight for critical protections and benefits on behalf of our clients and their communities. The impact on our clients from the coronavirus pandemic will be profound and long-lasting, exacerbating existing cycles of poverty, social inequality and homelessness. BayLegal staff will, like we have always done, continue to fiercely advocate and educate on the many issues facing our clients and their families; defending our clients against homelessness, inaccessible healthcare, predatory consumer practices, domestic violence and economic instability. And we do all this work in partnership with our broad base of dedicated volunteers, who in 2019 collectively donated over 24,800 hours in support of BayLegal and our clients through impact litigation, individual client representation, staffing restraining order, consumer protection and housing rights clinics, and research and policy advocacy.

We are grateful to our pro bono partners – old and new, who have reached out to offer their support while also navigating this challenging time in their own workplaces and at home.  Our hope for our clients and their communities – and all of us – is that we will come out stronger and with a sharpened focus on addressing the root causes of poverty that impact the health and wellbeing of so many.

How You Can Help
  • Operations support in connection with our virtual clinics (e.g. online training modules; clinic materials; resources accessible by mobile phone; translation of key forms and resources)
  • Research/Investigate systemic legal issues facing indigent and indigent working poor communities during this pandemic
  • Accept a case for representation – we continue to have full and limited scope opportunities primarily in the areas of domestic violence prevention, consumer protection and immigration.
  • Translate for a virtual clinic participant during online clinic appointments
  • Provide financial support to expand our impact on our communities and to help us reach more people in need.
