BayLegal Hosts First Remote Name and Gender Marker Change Clinic

On November 21, Bay Area Legal Aid hosted its first remote Name and Gender Marker Change clinic and information session. In partnership with the UCSF Child and Adolescent Gender Clinic and with volunteers from PayPal, we worked with 21 individuals to answer general questions about the name and gender marker change process and health access in addition to helping nine participants with court paperwork and ID applications. Our name and gender marker change clinics are a recent and much-needed addition to our clinic offerings, and the ability to shift them to remote service in the interest of client and staff safety during the pandemic is a significant accomplishment. Many thanks to the staff, pro bono volunteers, and community partners who made this new approach possible!
