BayLegal at the ABA Annual Meeting and LSC Forum
BayLegal staff, board and clients are participating in several panels, discussions and events at the American Bar Association (ABA) Annual meeting in San Francisco this Friday, August 9th. These include
- Increasing Access to Legal Services for Those Experiencing Housing Instability in Contra Costa County, co-presented by the ABA Commission on Homelessness & Poverty and BayLegal.
o Adam Poe, Contra Costa County Managing Attorney, and Michael Santos, Staff Attorney, will be on the panel along with our Board member Bob Planthold. - Legal Services Corporation (LSC) Forum on Increasing Access to Justice, 3:30 – 5pm: The LSC convening in San Francisco marks the fourth in a series of events to highlight the LSC Opioid Task Force Report which summarizes more than a year of work investigating the intersection of civil legal aid and coordinated responses to the opioid epidemic.
o Steve Weiss, SSI/SA Regional Managing Attorney, and Jia Min Cheng, Medical-Legal Partnership Senior Staff Attorney, will be discussing how BayLegal helps individuals and families impacted by opioids. - Concert for the Legal Services Corporation – It Is Only Fair, 5:30 – 7p.m. Yerba Buena Ballroom, Lower Level 2: 3rd Annual Concert that includes singing and performances interspersed with speakers and clients telling inspiring stories about the difference legal aid made in their lives and focusing on how a well-funded LSC helps create fairness for all in our justice system. BayLegal will be participating in the program with a short presentation by Genevieve Richardson, Executive Director, Skyler M. Rosellini, Staff Attorney with our Health Consumer Center (HCC), and Álida Pepper, an inspiring client whom our HCC represented in enforcing her right to Medi-Cal coverage for gender-affirming medical services and life-saving surgery.
